MAMMOTH SOLAR, HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT SECURE $1.2 MILLION GRANT FOR STARKE COUNTY ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
News Release
Mammoth Solar, in partnership with the Starke County Highway Department and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), has brokered a $1.2 million infrastructure grant to support significant improvements to Starke County roads. The funds, awarded to the Starke County Highway Department and offered in 2022 as part of the IEDC’s incentive package for the company’s investment in northwest Indiana, are designated for use on roadways impacted in part by the ongoing construction of Mammoth Solar.
The grant will build on road repair payments that Mammoth Solar has made to the county during its construction period. These funds will ensure that county roads are restored to a condition superior to their state prior to the commencement of Mammoth Solar’s construction, in line with the company’s commitment made early in the development process. This funding reflects Mammoth Solar’s ongoing investment in local infrastructure, its long-term commitment to keep promises made, and its partnership with the Starke County community.
“We’re proud to work closely with the IEDC to bring this funding home to Starke County,” said Kevin Parzyck, senior vice president of development for Doral Renewables. “Our goal has always been to be more than a developer. We want to be a true partner. By improving local infrastructure, we’re helping create a safer and more efficient transportation system for residents and farmers and once again prove that promises that were made years ago are kept.”
The grant will be accessed incrementally, as eligible road improvement projects are undertaken. The Starke County Highway Department will oversee the work in coordination with ongoing solar development, ensuring that both immediate and long-term transportation needs are met.
“This grant is a huge win for our county. These funds will allow us to not only address wear and tear from heavy equipment and construction traffic but also make meaningful improvements that will serve residents for years to come,” said Starke County Highway Superintendent Rachel Kinney. “We’re grateful to Mammoth Solar and the IEDC for their commitment to supporting our infrastructure and our future.”
This grant is the latest milestone that builds on Mammoth Solar’s commitment to the community and demonstrates how renewable energy projects can deliver real benefits to rural communities.
